San Marcos is mainly accessed by boats (lanchas) that plough back and forth along the north shore approx. every 20 mins from 6am-5pm. It is about a 30 min ride to Pana(jachel) the commercial and transport hub of Lake Atitlan and probably where you will arrive and from where you will need to take a boat to get to San Marcos. Although there is a road to San Marcos it is not advisable to use this route as the road is unkept. In Pana you will find everything you need for grocery and market shopping along with banks and ATMs, none of these are available in San Marcos except a few dry goods and some fruit and veggies.
