Just on the outskirts of the Tzutujil Mayan village of Santiago Atitlan, this 1-bed casita sits in a stunning, lush green property that runs all the way down the lake shore. This is a simple, but beautifully-decorated and furnished casita available for rent, only a 5-10 min tuk tuk ride or 20 min walk from the centre of Santiago and the public dock.
The house consists of two rooms: the kitchen with an eating area, then a step down to the bathroom and into the Bedroom come living area. Another door takes you outside and to a small space to sit and look at the gorgeous view. It is an ideal spot for someone wanting to get-away from it all. The owner herself is an artist and lives on a property on the lake-shore. There is another, larger, two-bedroom house for rent on the same property. See below for link.

Santiago Atitlan is the largest village around the lake and is generally accessed by boat from the main transport and commercial hub of the lake: Panajachel (Pana). From Pana SA is about a half hour boat ride. It is also about half an hour from San Pedro as well.
Like all villages around the lake SA has its own unique character and style of Mayan traje (dress). There are a couple of lovely hotels with good restaurants to eat at and a great cafe in town, called Quila. There is also the only museum in Guatemala dedicated totally to the ancient tradition of back-strap weaving, Cojolya, which also has a nice store of fair-trade accessories. Horseback riding and hiking is also available nearby.
Perfect Get Away for artists and writers!
There is another lovely 2-Bed Rental on this same property: click here for more info.
