The location offers quick access to great swimming, a myriad of boating activities, hiking, trail running or more relaxing activities like yoga, meditation, healing spas or your best massage ever.
The property is very private without being isolated, with a private meditation area, and nearby access to a nature trail. The Guardian/Caretaker, Nicolas, lives in a small casita right next to the house with his family and is always discreetly present to assist – to take you by boat to San Marcos, to arrange for a private boat trip to one or more of the indigenous villages that ring the lake, or to prepare the fireplace.
The property now has its own boat for short excursions and to go back and forth to the San Marcos Pana dock. Please ask for prices.
San Marcos is one of the most popular villages around the lake to visit and for foreigners to live. It is known as the holistic centre of Lake Atitlan. Here you can find a multitude of alternative therapy centres, massage therapist, as well as meditation and yoga centres. People come from all over the world to get treatments here and attend courses. It also boasts a wonderful array of restaurants, bars and cafes offering good food and company.
San Marcos is mainly accessed by boats (lanchas) that plough back and forth along the north shore approx. every 20 mins from 6am-5pm. It is about a 45-min ride to Pana(jachel) the commercial and transport hub of Lake Atitlan and probably where you will arrive and from where you will need to take a boat to get to San Marcos. It is also just 15 mins from San Pedro, where you will also find a lot of great restaurants, bars and grocery/specialty stores.
Otherwise, in Pana you will find everything you need for grocery and market shopping along with banks and ATMs (there is now an ATM in San Marcos, however it often does not have money!), none of these are available in San Marcos except a few dry goods and some fruit and veggies.
The tranquillity is magnificent and hard to beat!
PLEASE NOTE: The prices are for 2 people, all guests 3-8 are charged at $20pp per night. Children under 13 are not charged.
Also, please note that this house is not recommended for anyone with mobility issues. To walk to San Marcos, you have to walk up a fairly steep concrete pathway, up to the main road. It is only a 5 min walk up and then less than 5 min walk down into the centre of town. If you are unsure about this, please ask for further details
